It wasn't like the other re-unions. Lynn and I got there at 6:45 to set up the mic and stuff. To my surprise there was a 60th birthday going on in the ladies and escorts section with a band playing in the spot that we set up last year. Diane (owner of the Pines) suggested the men's room - I guess I didn't look to enthusiastic - so she said "What about the dining room?" Sounded good to me. Lynn and I set up the mic and moved some tables around and waited....and waited....by 8 o'clock it was weird....then about 8'15 Ron and Linda Pope showed up (he is/was a Northern Exposure photographer and part of the show at the Beacher Cafe in December 08)....So the party began....Not too long after Wally Brooker arrived - no sax - tendonitis (tennis elbow), but ready to boogie...With in moments Ena showed...then Peter (Pierre) and Mary ...followed by Astrid her daughter Kristin and her fella David...so two newbies and the regulars....There was no music and no poetry....but, the conversations flowed....and by 10:30 the music from the other room started the dancing.......it was a great evening....

Recieved these e-mails from two more "Grottoites":
Hello, hello:
I was just looking at the Grotto site when I remembered the time we lowered the Steinway upright piano into the basement. We put down some mattresses in case the ropes broke or something went wrong in the process. We tied the ropes to one of the posts in the store and lowered the piano without incident. The Steinway had a terriffic sound, but it also had a crack in the soundboard which required frequent tuning. If I remember correctly, the piano was donated by someone a friend of mine's dad (Dave Whately,s) knew. He even let us use a truck to transport it.

I'm still alive and well, still playing music (with my guitar classes at the school). The rest of the time I teach metalwork. "Heavy Metal."

I doubt I'll make it to the reunion, but my thoughts will be with you.

Thanks. I do remember the Grotto, and the Alps. Respectively the first coffee house and first place I bought beer. Enjoy. Abby and I have plans this weekend, but maybenext time. We will take a rain check. You go ahead.
Cheery byes (my grandfather used to say) and do it right, ship shape and Bristol fashion.
