go to the Goof
go to the Grotto
go to the Alpine

We started at the Goof with breakfast for 20 or 30, at the ungodly hour of 8 a.m. Many present bought and put on T-shirts reading "I grew up at the Grotto" from Ian Young (Thanks, Ian!) and buttons with the same message were passed around.

In attendance were Gary Williamson, Patrick Corrigan, Andy Olvet, plus many others who continued on to the other activities.

We then wandered up Beech and made our way to the Willow and Pine Groceteria, aka the Grotto. After a peek through the windows, someone tried the door handle and we found to our complete amazement that it was possible to access the interior and tour the basement, the store and Momsie's lair. Some of the paintwork on the bricks was just as we prepared it 43 years ago! After the tour, we stood in a circle and introduced ourselves, sharing some memories of better times. (Video link coming soon)

Carl Pamminger, Donna Armitage, Mel and Carmen (Buss) Grief, Kristen Adams (Astrid's daughter), Kristen's friend, and Bernie Baudisch tagged along from breakfast.

Next up was a walk along the Beaches boardwalk culminating in the day's first well-earned beer at the Boardwalk Pub. Survivors to this stage included Eric Lunn, Mitch Clarke, and Randy Walker.

Buzzing but unbowed, the remnant (Billy and his wife Lynn Marriott, Ena and Dennis) popped down to the CHUM 1050 50th anniversary concert at Nathan Phillips Square, and all wearing the official T-shirts, bopped to the sounds of Little Caesar and the Consuls, Robbie Lane's Disciples featuring Keith Hampshire, John Finley of Jon and Lee and The Checkmates fame and George Olliver, and finally a cameo appearance by Gordon Lightfoot.

The grand finale was the evening at the Pines. Billy brought along a PA from Tweed so we had the chance to hear more memories as well as some outstanding musical and poetic performances from Billy accompanied by Judy (Campbell) Tate's son Angus on 12-string guitar, Judy, likewise accompanied, and Astrid, as well as Ian. See below for the Eric Parker poems that Ian read.

Peter Sinclair, Roddie and Louise Armstrong, Richard Floody, John Fox and his daughter, Rick Williams and his wife, and John Smart all showed up along with returnees Ian Young and Wolf, Astrid (Buss) Adams, Phillipa (Swift) Sinclair, Dagmar Buss, and others already mentioned.

What a day! What a night!
