f-STOP Photographic Gallery |
In the late, late 60's Billy Piton and Craig Heads opened a photo gallery/photo store called f-STOP at 2188 Queen St. East. We started with the space (see photo) then expanded into the back with a sales area and darkroom. While Craig continued to work for Central Camera I sold film, paper & some equipment and arranged photo exhibits of area photographers. We rented the darkroom as well as providing custom printing/mounting services. We even bought an old "chip van" and sold photo supplies outside Ryerson once or twice a week. We met many photographers - some with whom I still keep in touch. It was closed sometime in 1972/73. In 1973/74, Leah Lariviere and I set up f-STOP at 1a Hannaford Ave. on Kingston Road. It was a photo studio/darkrooms and our home. It was there that Northern Exposure hatched forth. It was a time for photos/discussions/ideas/parties/photos and parties. |
